### One-Dimensional Compressible Flow

Physics Literature

Introduction: Thermodynamics plays an important role in fluid mechanics, particularly when the flow speed is high (comparable to the speed of sound). High-speed flow gases is called compressible flow, since it turns out that only in this case does the density vary much from point to point in the flow; if the velocity is much less than the speed of sound in a gas, then the density is nearly constant everywhere. In this chapter, we introduce some of the basic ideas of compressible flow.

Excerpt: System reliability and maintainability in correlation to mission outcome.

### Reliability of Data

##### By: U.S. Census Bureau Department

Statistical Reference Document

Excerpt: An estimate based on a sample survey will differ from the population value because of sampling variability and nonsampling error. Sampling variability occurs because observations are made only on a sample, not on the entire population. Nonsampling errors ...

### Mathematical Models of Reliability

##### By: Department of Defense

Government Reference Publication

Excerpt: In a general sense, we can say that the science of statistics attempts to quantify our uncertainty about the outcome of an experiment or test. Before we conduct an experiment, we are aware of’ the possible outcomes, but we are not sure which of the outcomes will actually result. The mathematical model, a logical extension of our assumptions about the experiment, quantifies our uncertainty and provides us with a tool for analysis of the outcome.

### Availability

##### By: Department of Defense

Government Reference Publication

Excerpt: Availability is the parameter ability characteristics into question, “Is the equipment that translates system reliability and maintainan index of effectiveness. It is based on the available in a working condition when it is needed? t’ The ability to answer this question for a specific system represents a powerful concept in itself, and there are additional side benefits that result. An important benefit is the ability to use the availability analysis as a platfo...

Introduction: Poverty and hunger are long-standing items on international and national policy makers? agendas and strategies to overcome both are now once again being intensively discussed in the context of the Millennium Development Goals. Both are largely interlinked since poverty is recognized today both as the cause and the outcome of hunger. Poor people are likely to have less access to healthy, nutritious food, which results in a poor health status and lower labour...
