Authorship doubtful. Toby was the nickname of Edward King, the nephew of Abel Roper, a printer and bookseller. This pamphlet was attributed to William Wagstaffe and the fourth edition was included in his Miscellaneous works, 1726, published after his death. It was also taken to be the work of Jonathan Swift. cf. Aitken, Life of Richard Steel, v. 1, pp. 410-415.
