Excerpt: In the search for a just and lasting Middle East peace, is there a role to play for American science? This was the question underlying two FAS trips to the Middle East -- to Israel in August and to Egypt, Lebanon, Syria and Jordan in December. Our answer is that the time has come to begin rethinking U.S. aid to the Middle East and, in this rethinking, science does have a significant and relevant role to play.
