Excerpt
Opening of the meeting I3r Dorothy Blake, Deputy Director, Global Programme on AIDS (GPA), opened the meeting Dr Blake noted that although the Health Care and Support Unit (HCS) of GPA had been extremely active and productive in its mission to improve care of persons with HXV infection through support to regions, countries, NGOs and others, this meeting was the first of its kind. The multidisciplinay group would focus on what had been one of the most neglected, or avoided, issues of HIVIAIDS care - development of services for, and care and support of persons with HIVIAIDS and their families in resource-poor settings. Almost exclusively, and understandably, the focus until now had been heavily on prevention - care was not an issue. However, as more and more people became infected with HIV and developed ADS, the situation had changed
