Excerpt
INTRODUCTION One of 'che obJectlves of this paper is to bring into focus work done w i t h various types of wastes in the Philippines w i t h the view of sharing with others some useful results that might l e d to possibilities of utilization. The Philippines, being a developing country and chiefly agricultural has very limited funds for research. Nevertheless a number of significant stuclias have been clone or are being d e r t a l r e n with regard to utilization of wastes (mainly agricultural), although most of these have not gone beyond the laboratory scale or the demonstration equipment stage. @ Annex 1 and Annex 2 w i l l indicate the extent to which studies wlW various types of wastes have ken carried out in the Philippines. The references cited constitute a pmtial l i s t i n g only. 'This paper, however. w i l l touch briefly only on the work in which the author is personally involved, namely thoss on the gasification, and the carbonization of agricultural wastes.
