The Sixth Biennial Meeting of CEHA Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) for the Regional Centre for Environmental Health Activities (CEHA), was held from 26 to 28 May 1997, in the CEHA conference hall, Amman, Jordan. The Committee was constituted by the WHO Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean, in accordance with the agreement between WHO and the Government of Jordan, the host country. The agenda of the meeting is given in Annex 1, the programme in Annex 2 and the list of participants in Amex 3. Dr M. Z. Ali Khaq CEHA Coordinator, welcomed the participants, and presented a brief history of CEHA and its achievement. He also acknowledged the excellent help and cooperation of the Ministry of Health and Health Care of Jordan. Dr J. Haines, representing Dr Wilfried Kreisel, the Executive Director in WHOheadquarters Geneva, summarized the importance and outcome of various international efforts, conferences and declarations in environmental health in the last decade and underlined the important and critical role of CEHA in promoting and protecting environmental health in the Eastern Mediterranean Region through human resources development, information exchange, technical cooperation, problem-solving activities and demonstration projects.
