Excerpt
Convening a meeting of experts on postgraduate medical education for the Pacific was one of the urgent recommendations contained in the Yanuca Island Declaration of 10 March 1995. In this broad statement of strategy, the Ministers and Directors of Health from the island countries in the Pacific adopted a multisectoral and interdisciplinary approach to the delivery of health care services for the balance of the 1990s and in anticipation of health needs during the first decades of the 21st century. In effect, the health officials from the Pacific island countries formulated a framework of action for the future based on the guidelines contained in the document New horizons in health, a consolidation of new approaches in health being promoted by the WHO Regional Office for the Western Pacific.
