Excerpt
UNITID KINGDOM-. An accurate estimate of the number of rubella cases in Scotland is difficult to achieve because of the similarity of rubella to other viral infections such as echovirus, and the fact that the disease is notifiable to the Registrar General only in certain parts of the country such as Glasgow and Edinburgh. Nonetheless, the information available is supplemented to some extent by the weekly returns of the virus laboratories, and the weekly returns of spotter practices' to the Research Unit of the Royal College of General Practitioners. These spotters are general practitioners located throughout the United Kingdom; however, only a few are based in Scotland.
