Excerpt
This table is for the classification of adverse effects of drugs and other chemical substances and contains an extensive but not exhaustive list of drugs, alcohols, petroleum products, industrial solvents, corrosives, metals, gases, noxious plants, household cleansing agents, pesticides and other chemicals. For a general definition of what constitutes adverse effects, see notes in Volume 1 preceding categories N960, E850 and E860. Each of the listed substances is given a code assignment according to the nature of injury classification (N960-N977 and N980-N989). Also shown are the codes for suicide or self-inflicted injury by means of drugs or chemicals (E950-E952), for accidents involving drugs or chemicals (E850-E877 and E905), and for cases in which it could not be determined whether the adverse effect or poisoning was accidental, suicidal, or homicidal, as in E980-E982. The external causes (or circumstances) classifiable to the categories cited, are indexed in Section 11.
